|27| Balancing Moisture and Protein in Afro-Textured Hair...

Tuesday, 4.10.12...

As you all should know by now, I do a LOT of online reading about all things natural hair!  I decided today to start posting some of these articles here, because at the end of the day, I am FAR from the natural haircare expert AND I'm not yet "certified" or "qualified" to really be telling you what you should be using or how you should be taking care of your hair!  LOL  What I share on this blog is essentially about my OWN personal hair experiences, but as I've listed in the section to the right, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >
it indeed takes a VILLAGE!  So, here are the very first non-"Afro-Texturally Speaking..." words of wisdom I'd like to share with you:

(A little background first!)  About 9 months ago or so, I came to a realization that something was "off" with my hair because of excessive shedding/breakage and a slower rate of growth.  After much reading, I soon discovered I was probably OVER-moisturizing my hair and subsequently took some steps to make some adjustments to my haircare routine and the products I was mixing (click here to read all about the it!  :)).  Ironically, I just ran across this article ("The Fine Art of Protein and Moisture Balancing for Black Hair Care", by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy) and [my OWN personal opinion] outside of the product recommendations (because y'all know I mix/make 90% of what I use on my hair myself AND I take issue with some of the haircare products on the shelves being falsely/inaccurately marketed to the natural hair demographic), there is some great & on-point information listed.  :)  Though, at the time, I hadn't read this particular article, I will say, it is indeed important to find that balance because I have truly seen a significant difference in my hair since making those adjustments...
